Abstract

The development of electric vehicles is a field in the automotive industry, with an increasing number of electric and hybrid vehicles being put into circulation in recent years. In addition to the particularly construction of a propulsion unit, in the case of electric vehicles, it is powered by powerful batteries (both in terms of power and stored energy) to ensure required driving autonomy by users. The proposed paper intends to do an analysis (using the computerized analysis method) about the effect of placing the batteries in the car body structure of an electric vehicle, on the dynamic performance and stability of the vehicle. The following cases are taken into account: different battery locations, different battery configurations and types and various operating cases.

The main objective of the paper was to analyze the effect of battery placement in an electric vehicle on the dynamic performance and stability of the vehicle. The research methodology is based on computerized analysis methods (CarMaker). The results show the analysis and interpretation of the values which define the dynamic performance and stability parameters of an electric vehicle, for all considered cases. In conclusion, the research helps identify ways to increase the energy efficiency of electric vehicles due to a better battery placement.
