Evaluation of using Mobile Devices for 3D Reconstruction of Accidents
Last modified: 2018-07-15
Abstract
This work aims to examine if the point cloud generated with a handheld device using Google Tango technology has a sufficient quality to generate a 3D model of a damaged car that was involved in an accident for later investigation and reconstruction of accident. The main focus is to compare the models generated with two methods: photogrammetry and using Google Tango technology. The result shows that the generated point clouds have the appropriate level of accuracy, but the smartphone based 3D reconstruction has the advantage of the speed and ease-of-use for generating the 3D model.
