Abstract

Sounds and noises are some of the most important aspects in determining the anthropic and particularly the automotive non-chemical pollution. Further development of new technologies in automotive sector, in order to improve their performance and safety, as well as to optimize engine systems is quite problematic without studying noise, vibration and harshness (N.V.H.) in various scenarios. N.V.H. factors contribute substantially in class distribution and quality ranking in the automotive field regarding the engine’s specific operation and exhaust system architecture. The main objective of the paper is to present the specialized engineering solutions consisting in testing bench system for N.V.H. parameters in a comparative study concerning two Porsche cars (Cayenne vs. Cayman) at Automotive Department of Technical University from Cluj-N. Specific sequences get through a short descriptive presentation of engineering methods applicable in N.V.H. field and an applied research realized with equipment from the Automobile Laboratory on both Porsche models. Results were gained through experimental tests and modeling. Differences between sport vehicle and sport-utility vehicle are underlined. After inspecting the values and reiterating tests in order to validate procedures the final results have been thoroughly studied and discussed. There were pointed out the differences between both Porsche models. The N.V.H. parameters gave an image of how the vehicles react to load and speed requests in operation. Improvement ideas are considered to promote and expand research of the N.V.H. issues.
