Abstract

Digital Management in engine operation creates the opportunity for defining an optimal powertrain and improved vehicle performance. Specific development of new features in the case of common-rail engines aimed to improve powertrain performance and economy, as well as to optimize engine systems is highly desirable due to the efficiency increase and pollution reduction. Digital features contribute significantly to accurate control of engine’s fuel efficiency and thermal control. The main objective of the present scientific paper is to highlight some of the most interesting features in electronic control module (ECM) of the K9K792 engine for optimal management of powertrain and propulsion process. Some engineering solutions in ECM high technology testing allow a certain control of important parameters to operate the engine in the proper way using specialized equipment from Automotive Department of Technical University from Cluj-Napoca. Specific objectives are: presentation of the powertrain/ECM; outlining the control features in management system; defining new features to be used or implemented in the digital environment; integrating all the features in the complex protocol of electronic management from Dacia Logan powertrain. Research results are collected through virtual modeling and practical tests. Some features and development capabilities are spotted out. Analyzing the actual values and defining operational characteristics in order to validate correlations (fuel amount vs. voltage on the pressure sensor), then the final result consisting in optimal feature adjustment is implemented.
